The unfortunate United States Capitol attack of 2021 still raises quite a few eyebrows of people around the world. Especially in terms of how this heinous act emphasized the government’s corruption and racism. Be that as it may, let’s take a thorough look at what exactly happened and why the US insurrection was a telltale sign of the decay of democracy and harmony in the country.

What happened during the Capital insurrection?

A horde of supporters of Republican President Donald J. Trump initiated an unprecedented attack on the Capitol Building in Washington, D.C. on January 6, 2021. It is commonly referred to as the Capital insurrection.

The supporters of Trump intended to overturn his 2020 presidential election’s defeat and disrupt the joint session of Congress to inhibit the final step of certifying the results of the presidential election of 2020.

Trump gave a speech to provoke a large number of his supporters to march towards the Capital and violently resist Congress’s certification of Biden’s victory.

During the attack that consisted of rioters assaulting the law enforcement officers, occupying and vandalizing the property, the Capitol Complex was locked down, and lawmakers and staff were immediately evacuated.

The aftermath of the Capital insurrection was 5 deaths and injured people, including 138 police officers. In addition, 4 of the officers who responded to the attack committed suicide within 7 months.

Trump was later impeached by the Democratic-led House of Representatives and eventually found not guilty by the Senate.

How does Capital insurrection highlight government corruption and racism?

According to Forbes, albeit seems like a move of frustrated Trump supporters, the Capital insurrection was a premeditated attack with the purpose of overthrowing individual government members. It is clearly similar to Neo-Nazi and white supremacist attacks.

As mentioned in Britannica, many law-enforcement agencies, including the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) considered the attack an act of domestic terrorism.

Crucially, CNN reports the lengths of political supremacy and corruption that guided a specific group of people to sacrifice their jobs, families, and lives and how it was strongly based on manipulation. But, the politicians and fame-seekers sought visibility, money, and power through the assault while the rioters lost their freedom.

Another CNN report stated that the Republican Party refused to hold Trump to account for the Capitol insurrection, which shows another facet of government corruption.

Apart from the obvious political corruption, another brewing matter is the raging racism in the country. The fundamental point that we should heed is that some of the Capital police who were violently attacked by insurrectionists and most individuals who were targeted were, in fact—white males.

This suggests that the targets weren’t based on gender, race, ethnicity, or partisanship. It simply implies that the manipulated Trump supporters had another plot prepared.

Although many rioters were promoting white supremacist and xenophobic rhetoric, they were dead set on lashing out at any person who obstructs their goal. I.e. the mission to protect white supremacy in the USA.

It is no longer a minority issue, but a major and devastating plight for all Americans who seek unity.

Conclusion

The bottom line is that Trump misused his political power and assaulted democracy for personal gains. The ramifications were grave, and it is only the tip of the iceberg.

Writing has always been a passion of mine. Since a young age writing was a very needed way of escaping to places unknown. I remember writing my first "book" in my bedroom as a youngling. The love of poetry and writing just continued to grow through my adolescent, teen, and adult years. I never really shared my stories or poetry with anyone until I was older and more comfortable with rejection. Expressing my feelings through words is something that no one can ever take from me. Today as a mother of two rambunctious children I find myself writing educational, poetry, and romance works of art. In my educational works you can always find a hidden message that hopefully will make you not only evaluate yourself but think about others. My romance novels and poems are super steamy and definitely for a mature audience. No matter the genre that I am writing for I just hope that the world enjoys every moment.
